VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) is the term used to describe the technology of integrating a very large number of electronic components - mainly Transistors - into a single semiconductor structure to form an integrated circuit (IC, Integrated Circuit). VLSI represents an advanced stage in the development of microelectronics, where it has become possible to integrate millions and now even billions of transistors on a single chip, enabling complex logic, memory and processing functions in a small volume.
VLSI technology forms the basis of today's microprocessors, memory chips, signal processors (DSPs) and specialised circuits (ASICs). The high degree of integration makes it possible to achieve faster speeds, lower power consumption, reduced device sizes and lower manufacturing costs on a mass scale. Central to this is the precision of semiconductor lithography, which enables microscopic structures to be imaged on a silicon substrate with nanometre accuracy.
VLSI encompasses both the physical and logical aspects of circuit design - from the placement of Transistors and metallization paths, to functional modelling, to testing, verification and optimisation of finished structures. The design process is assisted by EDA (Electronic Design Automation) Tools, which enable automatic synthesis, simulation and placement of logic circuits within the chip. In practice, VLSI combines issues from electronics, solid state physics, discrete mathematics and computer engineering.
The development of VLSI technology has followed the predictions of Moore's Law, which assumed an exponential increase in the number of transistors in integrated circuits. These achievements have enabled modern digital systems such as smartphones, personal computers, embedded circuits and artificial intelligence solutions.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.
TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
