Lasotape - definition

Lasotaśma (gaffer tape) is the colloquial name for a professional adhesive tape commonly used in the technical, artistic and stage industries, especially in film, theatre and television productions and events. It is a textile tape with a matt, often flame-retardant plastic coating on one side and a strong rubber or acrylic adhesive on the other, which has good adhesion while allowing clean removal without residue.

Lasotape is designed as a robust alternative to classic insulating tape or duct tape, offering greater resistance to abrasion, temperature and stage light. It is characterised by its flexibility, ease of tearing by hand and the ability to write on its surface with a marker, making it an extremely functional tool in technical work environments. Unlike PVC or vinyl Tapes, its surface is non-reflective, which is important in lighting and operator applications where light reflections can interfere with image registration.

Applications for lasotape include attaching cables to floors and structures, marking the position of equipment or actors on stage (so-called markers), temporarily securing technical elements or making quick repairs to scenery. Thanks to its wide range of colours, it can also serve an identification or organisational function. Despite its durability, however, it is not intended for structural applications or long-term outdoor use in harsh weather conditions.
