Cluster server - definition

A blade server (blade server) is a type of modular server designed in the form of a compact blade that is an independent computing node, but shares common infrastructure resources with other units housed in the same blade enclosure. This type of architecture allows for a high density of servers in a single rack chassis, while centralising power, cooling, network connectivity and management.

Each cassette contains the processor, RAM, network interfaces and often local data storage, while ancillary components such as power supplies, fans, network switches or management controllers are shared within the enclosure. As a result, blade servers reduce running costs, save physical space and increase energy efficiency compared to traditional rack servers.

Cassette servers are commonly used in data centres, cloud environments, HPC (High Performance Computing) systems and large IT infrastructures where ease of scaling, centralised management and high system availability are important. Replacing or expanding cartridges does not require interference with Other Modules, which simplifies maintenance and upgrades.

Today's blade systems offer integration with solutions for virtualisation, energy management, redundancy and IT process automation. They are an important element of the software-defined data centre (SDDC) concept, enabling flexible adaptation of computing power to changing operational needs, while maintaining high reliability and consistency of the system structure.

Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation.
