The LCD 16x2 (16 columns, 2 rows) universal displays presented here are based on the ST7066U controller. They are compatible with the HD44780 controller, support the same instruction set (including the 4-bit mode) and are equipped with an identical interface. The standard 16 pins (14 controller pins + 2 power pins for the illuminating LEDs) are placed in a single row and spaced at 2.54mm pitch. The offered product has a built-in set of English (Latin) and Russian (Cyrillic) characters. Together with the 8-bit data bus, this makes it easy to implement these LCDs in microcontroller systems.
DEM16217SYH-LY LCD
The size of the whole module (PCB) is 80x36mm (height: 11.9mm), while the character height is 5.55mm. The manufacturer defines the viewing angle for the DEM16216SYH module as "6 o'clock" – which means that the optimum image quality and contrast is achieved when looking straight ahead or from the bottom of the display. The module is powered by standard 5V DC, while the LED backlight requires a separate current source of approximately 150mA.
