Rotary switches are components widely used in control panels of various devices, which enable you to easily change their operating status. Basic models offer 1 or 2 stable positions. They are often used as ON-OFF rotary switches. However, there is no reason not to use this component for different purposes, as switches with up to 16 stable positions are available as well. While selecting such a component, one should pay attention to its mechanical and electrical durability. It is denoted as a number of switch cycles until which the product should maintain its properties. Another important factor is the material of the switch. Correct adjustment of these factors to operating conditions allows for mitigating the risk of quick failure of the component. Comfort of use also depends on the dimensions, the shape, and sometimes the lighting of a rotary switch. The type of leads may be another important feature (e.g. for PCB or for soldering). The remaining filtering parameters include e.g. load capacity and resistance of contacts, insulation resistance, or switching method.
