Triacs are semiconductors that belong to the family of thyristors. In terms of structure, they are two thyristors connected antiparallelly, forming a five-layer N-P-N-P-N structure. Triacs have only one gate, switched on with a negative or positive current pulse. Unlike thyristors, they work regardless of polarity. However, they switch off when the value of the current falls to zero. Applications for this type of components include dimmers, speed controllers for electric motors, relays, power regulators and protection systems. The use of triacs in many places allows to simplify the whole control system. Alternistor is a special type of triac. Its characteristics include improved switch-off parameters. Thanks to this, it is used in systems with highly inductive loads and high surges.
Over 300 triacs with a wide range of parameters are available at TME. Search engine filters allow you to narrow down the list of items depending on the maximum load current (from 0.6 to 40A), maximum off-stage voltage (up to 1.2 kV) and gate current. When choosing the best solution, it is worth paying attention to the mounting method. Offered products include components for SMD and THT mounting. The triacs are available in a variety of enclosures. Transfer Multisort Elektronik offers semiconductors from such manufacturers as Littelfuse, STMicroelectronics and WeEn Semiconductors. Prices and stock levels are listed next to the component name.
