Anemometer - definition of
Anemometer is a measuring instrument used to determine the speed of, and sometimes also the direction of the flow of air or other gas. It is mainly used in meteorology, aerodynamics, ventilation systems and industry, wherever, where it is necessary to control the parameters of gas movement. Its design and principle of operation depend on the specific type of device and field of application.
The most common type of anemometer is the bowl version, in which a rotating bowl element is set in motion by the wind. The rotational speed depends directly on the intensity of the air flow and is converted into linear velocity values. Alternatively, wing anemometers are used, tubular, thermal or ultrasonic - differ in their detection method, accuracy of measurement and resistance to environmental conditions.
In scientific and industrial applications, digital anemometers are increasingly used, which are equipped with systems that process the measurement signal and enable data transmission to analysis systems. This makes it possible to continuously monitor the air flow in real time and to document and analyse it.
Parameters of anemometers - such as measuring range, response time, accuracy and resistance to external influences - are selected according to the specific operating environment. These devices play an important role in climate control systems, environmental monitoring, as well as in wind energy, where they are crucial in wind farm site assessment and management.
