The Swedish Wheel is a specialised type of mechanical wheel that allows a vehicle or mobile platform to move in multiple directions without changing the orientation of the entire running gear. Its design is based on a main supporting wheel with transversely oriented, independently rotating rollers around its perimeter. This makes it possible to generate movement along the wheel's main axis, as well as in the transverse direction, thus realising holonomic movement - fully free in two plane dimensions.
Swedish Wheels are primarily used in mobile robotics, Industrial Robotics and material handling systems where high precision manoeuvring in confined spaces is required.
