The Analysis Lamp is a vacuum electron tube used mainly for testing the operating characteristics of other electron components such as grids, anodes or cathodes in amplifier and switching tubes. Its purpose is to enable the measurement of the relationship between voltage and current under controlled laboratory conditions, allowing the dynamic properties and operating parameters of the system under test to be analysed.
Structurally, the analysing tube resembles classic vacuum tubes, but contains additional electrodes that allow independent voltage control and monitoring of the current waveform in different configurations. This makes it possible to obtain static characteristics, such as anode curves or lattice characteristics, without the influence of secondary effects present in real application systems. The high vacuum and precision electrode design allow for reliable and reproducible measurement results.
This type of tube was widely used during the development of tube technology, particularly in research into the design of new types of amplifiers, generators and modulators. Its use was crucial in radio and television engineering, where precise analysis of tube parameters was essential for optimising signal paths. Today, the analysis tube is rarely seen in engineering practice, but it remains an important element in historical research and the preservation of vintage electronic devices.
In a didactic and experimental context, the analysing tube is still used in teaching the fundamentals of vacuum electronics, enabling visualisation of the effect of control voltages on current waveforms and understanding of the principle of operation of active elements preceding Semiconductors.
