Reklozer - definition

Reklozer is an automatic overhead circuit breaker used on medium-voltage power networks to protect lines from the effects of short-circuits and overloads by disconnecting them quickly and being able to reclose them automatically. The name is derived from the English term recloser, reflecting the primary function of the device - the automatic reclosing of the line after it has previously been switched off due to a fault.

The operation of the recloser is based on detecting short-circuit or overcurrents and immediately disconnecting the circuit. The device then attempts to restore power after a set period of time. If the short-circuit was transient - e.g. caused by a branch or momentary contact with a foreign object - the recloser reconnects the line and restores normal operation. In the case of a permanent short-circuit, subsequent attempts fail and the recloser remains open, isolating the damaged section of the network.

The reclosers are equipped with advanced microprocessor control systems that allow the configuration of operating parameters, such as the number of switching attempts, delay times, tripping characteristics and remote monitoring and control via SCADA systems. The use of digital communication allows the integration of the reclosers with grid automation systems and smart grids.

Structurally, the recloser combines the functions of the circuit breaker, measuring transformers, protection and automation in a single enclosure, making it a compact and versatile solution for the operation of overhead lines. With the ability to switch multiple times without the need for service intervention, reclosers increase the reliability of the power supply, reduce the time of interruptions and minimise the effects of disturbances on distribution networks.
