The Electron Microscope is a precision optical device that uses an electron beam instead of visible light to produce magnified images of the objects under investigation. Thanks to the much shorter wavelength of the electrons, much higher resolution than optical microscopy is possible, allowing nanometre- or even atomic-sized structures to be observed. This technology is used primarily in life sciences, materials science, electronics and engineering research, enabling detailed analysis of the morphology and composition of microstructures.
The basic element of an electron microscope is the electron gun, which generates a beam of electrons accelerated by an electrostatic field. A system of electromagnetic lenses directs and focuses the beam on the object under examination, placed in a vacuum. The interaction of the electrons with the surface of the sample results in the emission of secondary signals - such as electrons secondary, reflected, or X-rays - which are recorded by detectors to form an image or analyse the chemical composition.
Others distinguish between different types of electron microscopes, depending on the design and methodology used, including the scanning electron microscope (SEM), which allows the analysis of surface topography, and the transmission electron microscope (TEM), which allows the interior of very thin samples to be imaged with exceptional resolution. Microscopes operation requires specialised conditions, such as high vacuum and adequate mechanical and temperature stabilisation, due to the high sensitivity of the optical system to external interference.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.
TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
