Mathematical modelling is the process of creating abstract representations of real phenomena, systems or processes using mathematical structures such as equations, functions, systems of equations or probabilistic models. The purpose of modelling is to describe and understand the mechanisms governing a system and to predict its behaviour under different conditions. Mathematical models play a key role in science, technology and engineering, enabling the analysis and optimisation of systems in a quantitative way.
Modelling uses simplifying assumptions to focus on the essential features of the phenomenon under study. By introducing variables, parameters and relationships between them, the dynamics of physical, chemical, biological, economic or technical processes can be reflected. The model can be deterministic, when the results are uniquely determined by the input data, or stochastic, when randomness and uncertainty are taken into account.
In engineering, mathematical modelling finds applications in mechanics, Automation, electronics, circuit theory, acoustics or thermodynamics, among others. It allows the design, testing and verification of concepts without the need for costly physical prototypes. At the same time, it enables computer simulations in which models are numerically processed using appropriate algorithms.
Verification and validation of the model involves comparing its results with experimental data to assess its relevance and limitations. As necessary, the model can be developed and refined to better reflect reality. Mathematical modelling is therefore an important analytical and design tool, linking theory to engineering practice.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.
TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
