Nanotechnology is an interdisciplinary field of science and technology concerned with the design, study and application of structures, materials and devices with at least one dimension on the Scales of nanometres, i.e. below 100 nanometres. In this size range, quantum phenomena, surface effects and altered physicochemical properties that do not occur on the macroscopic scale begin to dominate. This allows nanotechnological materials and systems to exhibit unique mechanical, optical, electrical or magnetic properties.
The development of nanotechnology relies on advanced imaging and manipulation techniques such as scanning microscopy and electron lithography to create and analyse structures atom by atom. In contrast to traditional engineering methods, nanotechnology is often based on a so-called 'bottom-up' approach, involving the spontaneous formation of molecular or atomic structures, which opens the way to the precise construction of functional materials from scratch.
Applications of nanotechnology range from electronics, medicine, energy to materials engineering and environmental protection. In electronics, it allows the miniaturisation of semiconductor components and the development of high-density integration circuits, while in medicine, it enables the design of drug carriers capable of precisely reaching target cells. Nanotechnology is also being used to develop materials with improved strength, self-cleaning surfaces, catalysts with enhanced activity and novel protective coatings.
A distinctive feature of nanotechnology is the need for tight control of processes at the atomic and molecular level, which requires the integration of knowledge from physics, chemistry, biology, materials science and engineering.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.
TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
