Insulating tapes are products that probably need no introduction. They can be found at home as well as in workshops, manufacturing plants and fitters' toolboxes. Whether you need to secure electrical cables, carry out quick repairs or simply fix a cracked plastic housing, you can use an insulating tape. However, there are dozens of versions of electrical insulating tapes available on the market, therefore it's worth knowing which features to focus on when choosing a particular product. After all, we don't want the taped components to get damaged again due to temperature, for example.

Temflex TF-155 – general-use electrical insulating tape

The Temflex TF-155 series tapes are made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and coated with a rubber adhesive. A single roll is 20m long, 19mm wide and 0.13mm thick. The tape is available in a variety of colours, which will prove particularly useful for securing and repairing electrical cables. According to the manufacturer, the tape is resistant to moisture and changing weather conditions. In addition, it is flame-retardant and is classified as Type 1 (according to IEC 60454-3-1-1/F-PVCP/60). The tape’s operating temperature ranges from 0°C to 60°C and its dielectric strength is 600V according to the UL 510 standard.

Temflex TF-165 by 3M – professional grade electrical insulating tap

Similarly to the series described above, the TF-165 products are available in 20m long and 19mm wide rolls. However, they differ in thickness – in the case of Temflex TF-165, it is 0.15mm. These tapes come in different colours, too. TF-165 is also made of PVC and rubber adhesive. Moreover, this tape boasts a greater operating temperature range (0°C to 90°C) and its dielectric strength is 600V according to UL 510. The TF-165 series of tapes is characterised by enhanced resistance to moisture, changing weather conditions and mechanical factors. It has been classified as Type 5 (according to IEC 60454-3-1-5/F-PVCP/90).

Temflex TF-175 – tape for special applications

Also included in our catalogue is the black electrical insulation tape from the TF-175 series. This tape, made of PVC and coated with rubber adhesive, offers by far the best performance of the products listed here. It has the same length (20m) and width (19mm), but is the thickest (0.177 mm). It can be installed in areas where the temperature ranges from -10°C to 90°C and, like the other models, boasts a dielectric strength of 600V according to the UL 510 standard. As stated by the manufacturer, the TF-175 series exhibits excellent resistance to abrasion, moisture, alkalis, acids, copper corrosion and changing weather conditions. Consequently, it will perform well in industrial settings and particularly demanding applications. Furthermore, the tape is CSA-certified and classified as Type 6 (according to IEC 60454-3-1-6/F-PVCP/90).
