Electric Motors is an electromechanical device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, usually in the form of torque transmitted to a shaft. The principle of operation is based on the interaction of a magnetic field with electric currents in conductors, which - according to the Lorentz force law - leads to a mechanical force. The motor design usually comprises a stationary part (stator ) in which a magnetic field is generated, and a moving part (rotor ) which starts to rotate under the influence of this field.
Electric Motors are classified according to the type of power supply into direct current (DC) motors and alternating current (AC). The AC Motors group includes asynchronous (induction) motors, synchronous and brushless motors, while DC Motors include brush and brushless (BLDC) units. Each type has unique characteristics related to construction, control and operating characteristics, which determines their use in various industrial and technical fields.
The basic parameters characterising a motor are power rating, supply voltage, speed, efficiency, torque and type of control. Motors can operate at constant or variable loads and their selection depends on application conditions such as requirements for dynamics, control precision, operating costs and reliability. Today's electric actuators often work in conjunction with inverters, converters or servo controllers, allowing full control over motion parameters.
