SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuits Emphasis) - definition

SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuits Emphasis) is a computer program used to simulate the behaviour of analogue and mixed (analogue-digital) electronic circuits. Originally developed at the University of California, Berkeley, SPICE has become one of the most important tools in electronic engineering, used to analyse circuits even before their physical realisation. Its main purpose is to enable accurate modelling of the electrical parameters of components and their interactions in real time or under static conditions.

The operation of SPICE is based on numerical solutions of differential and algebraic equations describing the behaviour of circuit components such as Resistors, Capacitors, Transistors, voltage or current sources. Based on the data entered by the user - circuit diagram and component parameters - the programme generates a mathematical model and carries out simulations such as time (transient) analysis, frequency analysis, operating point analysis or noise and non-linearity analysis. This makes it possible to verify the correctness of designs, identify design errors and optimise circuit performance before implementation.

SPICE forms the basis of many of today's CAD/EDA (Computer-Aided Design / Electronic Design Automation) environments, which offer graphical Interfaces user and functional extensions, while maintaining compatibility with the original network description language. Its open structure and the availability of component models from manufacturers make SPICE widely used in both education and advanced industrial design of integrated circuits, analogue devices, filters, amplifiers and measurement systems.

Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.

TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
