Machine learning - definition

Machine Learning (Machine Learning) is a field of computer science and artificial intelligence that deals with the creation of algorithms and mathematical models that enable computers to learn autonomously from data, without having to program every rule of action. The primary goal of machine learning is to detect patterns, relationships and structures in data sets and then use this information to make decisions, classify, predict or generate new data.

The learning process involves optimising a mathematical model in such a way that it minimises prediction errors on learning data. Others models can take various forms - from simple linear regressions to complex neural networks - and their parameters are adjusted as a result of iterative data processing. Depending on the nature of supervision, a distinction is made between supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning, which differ in the type of information available and the purpose of training.

Machine learning is widely used in areas such as data analysis, image and speech recognition, language translation, medical diagnosis, financial forecasting, recommendation systems or autonomous control. Both the quality of the data and the selection of appropriate features (feature engineering), which determine the effectiveness of the final model, are crucial here. Also important are issues of generalisability - i.e. the ability of the model to operate correctly on unknown data - and robustness to errors and overfitting.

The development of machine learning is supported by increasing computational power, the availability of large data sets and advances in theory algorithms, making this field one of the main pillars of modern computer science and automation.

Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.

TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
