Artificial intelligence (AI) - definition

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an interdisciplinary field of computer science and engineering that deals with the creation of systems capable of performing tasks requiring intelligence that have traditionally been attributed to humans. It involves the design of algorithms, mathematical models and data structures that enable machines to analyse information, recognise patterns, make decisions, learn from experience and adapt to changing environmental conditions.

The development of artificial intelligence is based on the use of techniques such as fuzzy logic, heuristic algorithms, neural networks, expert systems, machine learning and deep learning. Others AI models can operate in a variety of modes - from rule-based systems to advanced self-learning structures that do not require direct programming of every decision. A key feature of AI is its ability to generalise, i.e. create generalisations from input data, allowing the application of acquired knowledge to new, previously unknown problems.

Depending on their level of sophistication, AI systems can operate in a reactive manner (without state memory) or as autonomous systems with memory, capable of planning, prediction and cause-and-effect reasoning. They are used in numerous areas such as industrial process automation, medical diagnostics, data analysis, robotics, natural language processing, image recognition, recommendation systems or autonomous vehicles.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the key technological developments and its implementation raises both technical and ethical challenges related to security, transparency algorithms, decision-making accountability and impact on society and the labour market. Its effectiveness depends on the quality of the data, the computational power and precision of the models designed, as well as the human capacity to interpret and control its operation.

Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.

TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
