Robotics is an interdisciplinary field of science and engineering focused on the design, construction, programming, and application of robots - autonomous or semi-autonomous machines capable of performing tasks in an automated manner. It combines elements of mechanical engineering, electronics, computer science, automation, control theory, and artificial intelligence. The goal of robotics is to develop systems that can perceive their environment, make decisions, and carry out physical actions based on processed data.
The core element in robotics is the robot itself, which can take various forms—from rigid industrial manipulators and mobile wheeled platforms to humanoid machines that mimic human motion and behavior. A key aspect is the integration of sensory, drive, and control systems, which enables a robot to adapt to changing environmental conditions and carry out complex tasks. Modern robotic systems are often equipped with advanced sensors, signal processing units, and the capability to communicate with other devices or supervisory systems.
Robotics is applied across numerous sectors of the economy, including manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, medicine, space exploration, defense, and services. In industrial settings, robots significantly enhance the efficiency, precision, and safety of technological processes. In mobile applications, they enable inspection, mapping, and interaction with the environment, often in areas inaccessible or hazardous to humans. In service robotics, machines are developed to support humans in everyday tasks, rehabilitation, and education.
Advancements in robotics are driven by the development of machine learning algorithms, image recognition, collaborative robotics (cobots), and the miniaturization of electronic components. Ethical considerations, user safety, communication standardization, and system interoperability are critical aspects of contemporary research and deployment in the field of robotics.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.
TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
