Robot - definition

Robot is an automatic mechanical device, equipped with control and sensory systems, capable of performing specific tasks in a programmed or autonomous manner. Its design may include electromechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic components, as well as electronic and computer systems that together enable it to perceive its environment, make decisions and perform physical actions in an external environment. Robots are designed to replace or assist human activities, especially in hazardous conditions requiring repeatability or high precision.

From an engineering perspective, a robot is a combination of precision mechanics, Automation, electronics and computer science, including advanced control software. A distinction is made between industrial robots, mobile robots, humanoid robots, medical robots, inspection robots and service robots, whose functions are tailored to the specific application. Key components of a robot are actuators (e.g. electric motors), sensors (e.g. position, force, image), controllers and algorithms signal processing and motion control.

Modern robots often use technologies artificial intelligence, machine learning, image analysis and vision systems, enabling them to adapt to changing environmental conditions, make real-time decisions and interact with users. In industrial applications, robots perform assembly, welding, transport or inspection tasks, while in the consumer environment they can perform educational, entertainment or service functions.

Developments in robotics are contributing to technological advances in many industries, integrating diverse fields of engineering and opening up new possibilities in process automation, space exploration, medicine and autonomous systems. Robots are also the subject of intense interdisciplinary research, covering the technical, ethical and social aspects associated with their presence in everyday life and human work.

Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation.
