2-position, i.e. bi-stable switches are primarily used in SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) or DPDT (Double Pole Double Throw) configurations. SPDT switches allow you to connect a single circuit to one of the two remaining circuits. DPDT switches work like two SPDT switches operating side by side.
In 3-position switches, oftentimes one of the stable positions may result in a situation where no two pins are connected. There are also switches where one of the pins is connected with one of the three remaining pins, depending on the position chosen.
When choosing a slide switch, you should also consider the assembly method. The most commonly used are models for PCB mount, which can be mounted in a vertical or horizontal position (angle switches), depending on the model. In case of switches with more than two positions, it’s good to pay attention to the OFF position – whether it ensures that no circuits are shorted. It can be either middle or terminal position, which may be important in certain applications.
When thinking about durability, consider the operating temperatures for your slide switch. The most common models have a rather wide range of operating temperatures, i.e. -30°C to +85°C, which is sufficient in the majority of applications.
TME’s offer includes slide switches, which – depending on the pins – can be used with various devices and for miscellaneous projects. Finding the right slide switch is made easier by the product search tool and the filters above the product list. Detailed descriptions and all essential parameters are listed in product datasheets on our website.
