Bridge rectifiers
(311)Bridge rectifiers (also known as Graetz bridges) are full wave rectifiers allowing to change alternating current, supplied to its input, into a signal with preserved polarity – most often marked with ‘+’ and ‘-‘. Rectifying bridges are used in virtually all electronic devices – consumer electronics, household appliances, audio and video equipment, computers, automation, battery chargers, automotive products etc. The construction of a single-phase bridge is based on a system of four rectifier diodes (independent or integrated), two of which work with the polarization in the direction of conductivity, and two in the direction of the barrier. When the direction of voltage changes, the pairs change roles. Apart from single-phase bridges there are also three-phase variants available on the market, which in terms of structure are like multiplied branches (three diode branches for three-phase voltages) and controllable bridges, built as diode-thyristors or thyristors. When making a selection, it’s worth paying attention to the voltage and operating current, maximum forward impulse current, and the type of installation (THT, SMT, screwed). It’s also important to remember about heat dissipation – appropriate radiators are used for this purpose.
