Depending on the intended use of an electrical installation, it may have to be checked regularly. This is where testers and meters come in. Voltage and continuity testers
The most basic voltage tester is just a regular screwdriver connected to a diode. Modern electrical installation testers let you perform many operations, including voltage tests, conductivity checks, and phase sequence checks. Data is shown on large diode displays that can also be LED- or OLED-based. What’s more, good readings are indicated with a sound, a display diode lighting up, and – in the latest models – with vibration.
Insulation resistance meters
Insulation protects users from electric shock, so checking it is crucial. Modern resistance meters have a range from 0 do 20GΩ, and measured data is shown directly onscreen. What’s important is that many insulation testers can save and process data. This, in turn, lets you analyse and look for trends. This is especially vital in industrial installations because cables have to bear much heavier loads there. RCD testers
RCDs (residual-current devices) break the flow of electrical current in a circuit when an earth current that is too high is detected. RCDs are one type of safety elements protecting entire installations. RCD testers detect incorrect wire connections, measure resistance to earth, and test all types of RCDs (AC, regular, selective).
