Data acquisition is the process of acquiring and converting information from physical or digital sources into a form that enables its further analysis, processing and archiving. In a technical context, it usually refers to the collection of analogue signals from sensors or measurement devices, their conversion to digital form using analogue-to-digital converters (ADCs) and-converters (ADCs) and transfer them to computer or microprocessor-based systems for further use.
Data Acquisition Systems are an indispensable part of modern automation, diagnostics, control and monitoring. They make it possible to keep track of the parameters of technological processes, environmental conditions or the condition of technical equipment. Important elements in this process are not only sensors and transducers, but also communication interfaces, control software and analytical tools.
From an engineering perspective, data acquisition also includes activities related to noise filtering, time synchronisation, calibration of measurement equipment and ensuring appropriate resolution and accuracy of recorded data. It is also important to meet the requirements for sampling frequency sampling frequency, which must be appropriately selected for the nature of the phenomenon under study according to the Nyquist theorem.
In industrial and scientific applications, data acquisition forms the basis for mathematical modelling, statistical analyses, detecting anomalies and implementing predictive systems. In the era of developing Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 the importance of distributed acquisition systems, which integrate data from multiple locations and allow it to be transmitted to the cloud computing. This process requires not only efficient data collection, but also to ensure its integrity, security and compliance with applicable technical standards.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.
TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
