A Voltage Converter Modules is a power electronic device used to change the level of electrical voltage in power systems, while maintaining the highest possible energy efficiency. Its function is to convert electrical energy from one form of voltage - DC or AC - to another, according to the requirements of the load. Converter Modules are commonly used in power systems for electronic devices, industrial installations, electric vehicles, battery systems and renewable energy sources.
Depending on the type of input and output voltage, a distinction is made between DC-DC, AC-DC, DC-AC and AC-AC converters. Each of these types uses a specific circuit topology and appropriate control techniques, such as pulse width modulation (PWM), frequency modulation or sinusoidal control. In DC/DC Converter Modules, the key components are power transistors and energy storage elements - Coils and Capacitors - that allow the voltage polarity to be increased, decreased or reversed. AC-DC Converters, on the other hand, usually contain rectifiers as well as filtering and stabilising circuits, while DC-AC Converters contain inverters that generate AC voltage with set parameters.
Converter Modules operation involves dynamic switching of high-frequency signals, which allows for compact size and low energy losses, but also requires precise design for EMC, cooling and overload protection. Converter Modules parameters such as voltage range, maximum current, efficiency and output stability must be tailored to the specific application, ensuring a reliable and safe power supply.
