Computer Networks is a collection of interconnected digital devices such as computers, servers, switches, routers, printers or mobile devices, enabling the exchange of data and the sharing of resources and services over a transmission medium. These connections can be wired - using copper cables or fibre optic cables - or wireless, based on radio technologies (e.g. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE). Computer Networks allow for local or distributed communication, creating an infrastructure for information systems, web services, distributed applications and remote management.
From a technical point of view, Computer Networks operate on the layers of the OSI reference model or TCP/IP protocol, covering the functions of physical data transfer, logical addressing, error control, routing, sessions and application network services. Depending on the scope and purpose, a distinction is made between local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), metropolitan area networks (MANs) and personal area networks (PANs), as well as their hybrid forms. The topological structure can take the form of a bus, ring, star, mesh or other more complex configurations.
The basic components of a network include end devices (hosts), network equipment (e.g. switches, routers, access points), the transmission medium, and traffic and security management software. Communication protocols such as Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP or HTTP define the rules for the exchange of information, ensuring interoperability and reliability of transmission. At the application layer, Computer Networks support the operation of services such as e-mail, web servers, remote desktops, databases, IP telephony or multimedia transmission.
Computer Networks today are evolving towards greater bandwidth, automation, resource virtualisation (e.g. SDN, NFV) and increased resilience to cyber threats. Their development is critical to the functioning of the digital economy, critical infrastructure, industry, science and everyday life.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.
TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
