SMD resistors are basic, universal resistors designed to be mounted on PCBs. These elements are available in several standard sizes: from 0402 to 2512, in flat, cuboidal enclosures, and in round mini-melf versions. Maximum rated power of resistors is connected with their size. The bigger the size, the higher power dissipation is possible. But there are also special versions that are characterised by high power – they provide high load despite of their small dimensions. While choosing specific element, tolerance (1-10%), temperature coefficient, operating temperature range, and maximum rated voltage should be taken into account; and in case of elements characterised by high resistance, also maximum operation voltage should be taken into consideration.
SMD precision resistors are characterised by lower tolerance (0.1%), wider operating temperature range and lower resistance value change rate under the influence of temperature. They are available in several enclosure sizes and resistance values, and they are designed to be used in dividers of measuring equipment, converters and conditioning amplifiers of sensors.
Carbon THT resistors are basic resistors designed for THT mounting. They are cheap and designed for applications where thermal stability, noises and maximum power are not critical. They are available in several versions that differ in terms of maximum power value and dimensions.
Metal film THT resistors are a little bit more expensive, however, they are characterised by far better parameters, including resistance stability in the function of temperature, self-generated noise, maximum operating voltage, and heat dissipation capability. The offer of resistors of this kind is wider than the offer of carbon THT resistors. Due to this fact, it is easier to choose the element that suits our particular needs.
Power resistors are equipped with a resistance wire and they are placed in heat-resistant ceramic enclosures filled with cement, they are designed for PCB mounting; stronger versions are also available in metal radiator enclosures that can be attached to a device with the use of screws. These elements allow for loading with power of up to several dozen of watts, and they are designed to operate in artificial load systems, engine braking energy absorbers, softstarters, and they can be used as heating elements in industrial housing thermostats.
Fusible resistors are metal film resistors designed for THT mounting; they act as disposable fuses that disconnect voltage in case of severe overload or short circuit. They prevent fire by protecting small electronic circuits in sealed enclosures, e.g. in wall power supply units, building automation systems. Their resistance value is small: 100mΩ-100Ω; higher resistance values limit surge current during turning power on.
Heating resistors are ceramic plates coated with resistive layer and equipped with soldering pads; they are designed to be used in systems responsible for controlling environmental conditions inside enclosures of industrial equipment operating outside buildings, radiators that remove frost and dew from optical systems, etc. In order to mount heating resistors, thermo-adhesive glue is needed.
Resistor networks are sets consisting of 3-9 paired resistors in joint THT or SMD enclosure. They take up little space on a PCB, they ensure repeatability, and they are characterised by tight manufacturing tolerances.
Audio resistors consist of a resistive element made of a wire and high quality ceramic enclosure which is characterised by very low self-inductivity and low noise level. Their joints are fully welded in order to limit thermoelectric effect. They are designed to be used in high-end audio amplifiers, including tube ones.
TME offers wide range of different types of resistors and we constantly expand our offer. In our offer there is a wide variety of SMD resistors and SMD precision resistors. TME’s offer includes also carbon resistors, metal film resistors, and wirewound resistors that differ in terms of resistance value and type of mounting. In our catalogue there are resistors which are characterised by different resistance value (ohm) and type of mounting. In order to make it easier to choose appropriate resistor, we make product comparison engine available to our customers. In order to find similar resistors with similar parameters, customers have to select desired parameter in technical specification of a chosen product and click “show similar products”.
