Mass Storage is a category of devices and technologies used to permanently store large amounts of digital data, independent of power supply. Unlike RAM, Mass Storage is characterised by its non-volatility, meaning that stored information is retained even when the system is switched off. In system terms, this type of memory performs the function of archiving, sharing and organising data, providing both sequential and random access depending on the technology used.
The technical classification of Mass Storage includes magnetic, optical and solid-state solutions. Media such as hard disk drives (HDD), solid state drives (SSD), USB flash drives, magnetic tapes and RAID disk arrays are commonly used in consumer and industrial environments, as well as in server infrastructure and distributed systems. Key parameters for evaluating Mass Storage include throughput, access time, latency, storage density, fault tolerance and scalability.
From a technical computing perspective, Mass Storage is an important part of the Computer Memory Hierarchy and directly affects the performance of input-output (I/O) operations, file management processes and data storage systems. Integration with memory controllers, interface protocols (e.g. SATA, NVMe, SCSI) and operating systems is crucial for the consistent and secure operation of the information infrastructure.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation. The catalog includes over 1,500,000 products from 1,300 leading manufacturers. TME’s modern logistics centers in Łódź and Rzgów (Poland), with a combined area of over 40,000 m², ship nearly 6,000 packages daily to customers in more than 150 countries.
TME also invests in the development of knowledge and skills of young engineers and electronics enthusiasts through the TME Education project, and supports the tech community by organizing the TechMasterEvent series, promoting innovation and experience exchange.
