Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is a branch of technology and computer science dealing with the analysis, modification and interpretation of signals represented in digital form. The process consists in mathematical handling of data encoded as sequences of numbers, which are created as a result of sampling and quantisation of analogue signals, such as sound, image or radio waves. Processing is carried out using specialised algorithms, implemented either software or hardware - in signal microprocessors, FPGAs or embedded systems.
Unlike analogue processing, digital technology allows precise control of signal operations, signal storage, transmission and filtering with minimal influence from noise and interference. As a result, digital signal processing is applicable to a very wide range of technologies - from wireless communications and radar systems, to digital television, to medical diagnostics and speech recognition.
A key aspect of DSP is the ability to modify the signal in a selective and reproducible manner, allowing the elimination of interference, extraction of desired information or data compression. Operations such as Fourier transform, digital filtering or error correction are the basic tools of this field. DSP also plays an important role in the implementation of real-time systems, where processing must be performed with minimum delay.
The development of digital signal processing has been made possible by advances in microelectronics and information theory, and its use continues to grow with the development of mobile devices, smart systems and IoT technology.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation.
