Electrical engineering - definition

Electrotechnology is a branch of science and technology dealing with the theory, design, manufacture and operation of equipment and systems using electrical and electromagnetic phenomena. It covers a wide range of issues related to the conversion, transmission, distribution and use of electrical energy, both on an industrial scale and in everyday applications. Electrical engineering forms the basis for the development of energy technologies, Automation, electronics and industrial computing.

The main areas of interest in electrical engineering are the generation of electricity, its conversion by means of machines and converters, power supply and distribution systems, high-voltage technology and electric shock and surge protection. The analysis of electrical circuits, the study of the properties of electrical insulating materials, the modelling of dynamic systems and the application of numerical methods in the design of complex systems also play a special role.

The development of electrical engineering is based on the foundations of physics, mathematics and chemistry and makes use of modern computer and simulation tools. Modern electrical engineering is intersecting with electronics and Automation to create interdisciplinary mechatronic systems, smart grids, power electronics systems and sustainable technologies such as renewable power sources.
