Tesla (T) is the unit of magnetic induction (also called magnetic flux density) in SI, which describes the intensity of a magnetic field. It is named after Nikola Tesla, the pioneer of electrical engineering and electromagnetism. One tesla is defined as the magnetic induction that results in a force of one newton (N) on a conductor one metre long through which a current of one ampere (A) flows when the conductor is perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field.
In practice, the tesla is a relatively large unit - which is why many technical applications use aliquots such as militesla (mT) or microtesla (μT).
In technology and science, the tesla plays a key role in describing electromagnetic phenomena, especially in applications such as Electric Motors, generators, Solenoids, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Hall Sensors or ferromagnetic materials research. In these fields, accurate control and measurement of the magnetic field are essential for the functionality, precision and safety of the devices.
Magnetic fields with fractional tesla values are common in everyday devices such as Speakers or Electric Motors. Fields of several tesla are found in scientific applications, e.g. in particle accelerators and medical instruments. In geophysics, on the other hand, much smaller units - usually microteslas - are used to describe the Earth's magnetic field, demonstrating the wide range of scales at which this unit finds practical use.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation.
