Radio engineering is a field of technology and science dealing with the generation, transmission, reception and processing of electromagnetic waves, mainly in the radio frequency range. It covers a wide range of issues related to the transmission of information at a distance without the use of a physical wire connection, using the phenomena of propagation of radio waves in the atmosphere, space or other media.
The basis of radio engineering is the use of physical phenomena that enable the emission and reception of electromagnetic waves, such as electromagnetic induction, resonance, modulation and demodulation of signals, attenuation, diffraction and reflection. The key components of radio engineering systems are transmitters, receivers, Antennas, amplifiers, frequency generators and filtering and mixing systems. Radio engineering is based on the precise selection of transmission parameters, such as carrier frequency, bandwidth, transmit power or modulation type.
In practice, radio technology is used in telecommunications, broadcasting, television, radio navigation, radiolocation, military communication systems, data transmission and wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or satellite systems. Its development has enabled the emergence of modern mobile networks, GPS systems, radar and Internet of Things.
Modern radio technology combines traditional analogue circuits with modern digital systems, enabling the implementation of complex modulation algorithms, data compression, correction coding and adaptive adjustment of transmission parameters. Advances in microwave technology, signal processing and the miniaturisation of electronic components are significantly expanding the design and operational possibilities of radio systems, making radio engineering a key branch of modern communications engineering.
